Bandits start '12 season with Rock

The Buffalo Bandits won't waste much time in finding how they rank with the best in the National Lacrosse League.

The Bandits will open the NLL season on Jan. 14 with a home game against the Toronto Rock, the league's defending champions.

There are two other meetings with the Rock, and three games scheduled against Rochester and Philadelphia. The Bandits will play at least one game against every team in the league.

Oddly, the Bandits go about three weeks between games at one point, as they don't play between Feb. 12 and March 3. They do play back-to-back games on two occasions.

All nine teams, down one from last year due to the demise of the Boston Blazers, will play a 16-game schedule. The league campaign opens on Jan. 8, when Toronto hosts the Calgary Roughnecks.

The 2012 playoffs will begin on the weekend of May 5. Details about the format of the postseason will be announced at a later date.

In the meantime, the Bandits' next order of business will take place on Sept. 21. That's when the NLL Entry Draft will be held in Toronto.

The Bandits do not have a first-round pick this year due to a trade. However, they do have two picks in the second round.
