WAITE, Brenda L.

WAITE - Brenda L. 43, of Elizabeth City, NC, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, August 29, 2011, at her residence. She was born in Buffalo, NY on November 12, 1967 to Robert and Carol Woolly Peters of Lockport, NY and was the wife of Thomas Michael Waite of the home. Mrs. Waite attended Buffalo State College in NY where she received a Bachelors degree in Art Education and a Masters in Art Therapy. Her professional career included work as a child therapist with the Beeman Child Guidance Clinic in Niagara Falls, NY and for Catawba County Area Mental Health Program in Hickory, NC, before turning to education as an Exceptional Education Teacher for Lincoln County Schools and, for the past eleven years, Camden Middle School. While employed by Camden County Schools, Mrs. Waite achieved National Board Certification and recognition as a Public Schools of NC Teacher of Excellence. She was a highly respected and inspiring advocate for learning disabled students. With her beloved husband and parents, Mrs. Waite is survived by her daughter, Alex Tavenier of Delaware, OH; step-daughters, Lynne Murphy of Norfolk, VA and Erin Waite of Philadelphia, PA; step-sons Brian Waite of Ellicott City, VA and Kyle Waite of Dothan, AL; sisters, Kelly Hodges of Buffalo, NY and Roberta Betsch of Lockport, NY; grandchildren, Joseph Murphy, Mark Murphy, Ian Murphy, Natalia Waite and Sonia Waite; and special friends, Debra Dimingo, Jason and Denise Thomas and Diane Salvamoser. A Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at TWIFORD MEMORIAL CHAPEL with the Rev. Charles Sawyer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at their residence.
