The Western New York Chapter of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York will present the M. Dolores Denman Lady Justice Award to Erin M. Peradotto, State Supreme Court justice, Appellate Division, and the President's Award to Rep. Kathleen C. Hochul, D-Amherst, at its annual installation of officers and directors, and awards ceremony. Also, the association will install Tammy L. Riddle as the chapter's 27th president. Other officers: President-elect, Bridget M. O'Connell; treasurer, Sarah K. Ranni; and secretary, Marybeth Priore. State directors: Elizabeth B. Harned, Laura Linneball, Lisa Primerano, Jennifer Scharf and Amanda Warner. Local directors: Kara Addelman, Lenora Foote, Jessica L. Foscolo, Anne E. Joynt, Elizabeth Kraengel, Stephanie Mack and Mary Q. Wydysh. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Buffalo Zoo.

Dr. Alex A. Adjei, senior vice president of clinical research and Katherine Anne Gioia Chair in Cancer Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, was named to the board of directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. He will hold this position until 2015. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer is a global organization whose membership includes more than 3,000 lung cancer specialists in 80 countries. The association was founded in 1972.

CureFAKtor Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company leasing laboratory space, equipment and resources at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Center for Genetics & Pharmacology on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, in June presented preclinical research results from its work targeting pancreatic cancer tumors at the European Society for Medical Oncology 13th World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer in Spain. The company's research focuses on focal adhesion kinase, or FAK, inhibitors in developing a new cancer therapy.
