Today, the Kenan Center (433 Locust St., Lockport) opens a monthlong exhibition called "Picturing the Civil War," a collection of framed prints of modern paintings based on scenes and figures from the Civil War.
The prints come from the collection of Lockport's Jim McGrath, a Civil War buff and collector who has followed his interest in the great war to battlefields across the United States and picked up plenty of prints on his way. McGrath's collection features prints of paintings by modern and contemporary artists who paint Civil War scenes, including Don Troiani, Mort Kuntsler, John Paul Strain, Dale Gallon and Michael Gnatek. The show also includes five paintings of Civil War scenes by amateur artists. It runs through Oct. 2.
