Steina Vasulka, the pioneering video artist whose work is on view in the Burchfield Penney Art Center (1300 Elmwood Ave.) through Sept. 25, returns this weekend for three performances of a large, multidisciplinary spectacle in the theater of Buffalo State College's Donald Savage Theatre and Communications Building.
Vasulka (known also simply as Steina) will join The Carrier Band, the Reactionary Ensemble and Nimbus Dance for a collaborative piece called "VideoSoundDanceMagic." The performance will incorporate works by Vasulka, with which its dance, music and other performance elements will engage in ways that are as yet unpredictable. The roster of performers includes some of Western New York's experimental artists new and long-established, including Beth Elkins, Meg Knowles, Brian Milbrand, Tammy McGovern, Don Metz, Andrew Deutch, Jeff Maciejewski and Kevin Cain.
The show's first performance gets going at 8 tonight and is repeated at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 878-6011 or visit www.burchfieldpenney.org.
