Sage Investment Group, an independent financial planning firm, named David Franko and Joel Morawski certified financial planners at the Amherst firm. Franko focuses his practice on retirement and estate planning. Morawski manages individual clients, businesses and organizations. Both were previously Merrill Lynch advisers.

The Tax Advisory Group of Dopkins & Company, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, named Margaret F. Straus senior accountant. Straus, a University at Buffalo graduate, has more than 20 years' experience working for CPA sole practitioners as well as medium size local firms in both accounting and tax areas. Also, Amy Meacham, a Tax Advisory Group senior accountant, successfully passed all parts of the CPA exam. She joined the agency in 2007 and is a Daemen College graduate.

Phillips Lytle partner Adam S. Walters delivered a presentation titled, "Minutes and Meeting Procedures for ZBA and Planning Boards" at the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials' Planning and Zoning Summer School session in Amherst. The session was sponsored by NYCOM in conjunction with the Association of Towns of the State of New York and the New York Planning Federation.

Gowanda Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for RF and power applications, recently completed a recapitalization of the company with Addison Capital Partners. The new structure will enable Gowanda to accelerate its plans for growth in strategically important products and markets. First Niagara Bank and Banyan Mezzanine provided financing for the recapitalization.

Buffalo Games recently celebrated its 25th anniversary of local manufacturing and marketing of award winning party games and jigsaw puzzles. Founders Paul and Eden Dedrick hosted more than 200 people including employees and their families, friends and colleagues at the Zoofari Courtyard in Buffalo. Buffalo Games employs 80 workers in its 85,000 square foot facility on James E. Casey Drive in Amherst.

Kenmore Mercy Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, was recently awarded a special certification from the Joint Commission for its stroke care program, which recognizes its cohesive approach to fostering better outcomes for stroke patients. The Joint Commission recently conducted an extensive, on-site review of Kenmore Mercy's stroke care program.
