Meet the Candidates Day set Sept. 3 at Farmers Market
The Alden Farmers Market will host a Meet the Candidates Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Alden Village Plaza, 13119 Broadway, between the Tractor Supply and Save-a-Lot stores.
Any person in any party running for any position on the ballot in Alden is encouraged to attend.

Free backpacks available at Belle Center Kids Day
The sixth annual Kids Day Fest 2011 will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Belle Center, 104 Maryland St.
Free hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn will be available. Entertainment and activities include face painting, games and a deejay.
Best Buy will provide underserved students in kindergarten through eighth grade with free backpacks, school supplies and gifts under its first annual "Gear Up for School" program.
To receive a backpack, a child must be eligible for free school lunches and be registered by a parent or guardian. Best Buy also will distribute backpacks at True Bethel Church, 907 E. Ferry St., from noon to 4 p.m. next Thursday.
Law regulating wood boilers set for hearing Sept. 8
The Marilla Town Bard will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 on a proposed law regulating wood boilers.
Under the proposal, state law would be toughened with local rules calling for permits to have a wood boiler and mandating that boilers would have to be 1,000 feet from mobile homes, subdivisions and churches.
The meeting will be held in the Town Hall or the next-door community center on Two Rod Road, depending on the reconstruction job for the Town Court.
Merriweather Library is site of Back to School Rally
Retired Buffalo Public Schools teacher Eva M. Doyle will host her second annual Back to School Rally from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave.

Ooey Gooey Lady to speak on infant, toddler play
Lisa Murphy, the Ooey Gooey Lady, is keynote speaker for a daylong conference on infant and toddler play sponsored by the WNY Infant Toddler Resource Network Sept. 17 in Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew.
