Last year: Matt Kuchar won at Ridgewood in Paramus for his third career PGA Tour victory, beating Martin Laird with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.
Last week: Webb Simpson won the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., for his first PGA Tour title. George McNeill was second, three strokes back.
Chip shots: The top 125 in the FedEx Cup points qualified for the playoff opener. The top 100 after the event will be eligible for the Deutsche Bank next week in Norton, Mass. The field will be cut to 70 for the BMW Championship at Cog Hill in Lemont, Ill. and to 30 for the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. Nick Watney tops the standings, followed by Steve Stricker, Simpson, Luke Donald, PGA champion Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson. Tiger Woods failed to qualify. Donald Ross-designed Plainfield opened in 1921. The Green Monster was the site of the 1978 U.S. Amateur (John Cook) and 1987 U.S. Women's Open (Laura Davies). The 2012 tournament will be played at Bethpage Black, and the 2003 event is set for Liberty National.

Course: Hillsdale CC (6,064 yards, par 72).
Purse: $2.25 million. Winner: $337,500.
TV: Golf Channel (Thursday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, midnight-2 a.m., 3-6 p.m.; Sunday, 2-6 p.m.).
Last year: Michelle Wie won at St. Charles in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She beat Jiyai Shin, Kristy McPherson, Suzann Pettersen and Jee Young Lee by three strokes for her second tour title. Last week: Pettersen won the Safeway Classic in North Plains, Ore., overcoming a nine-stroke deficit with a 7-under 64 and beating Na Yeon Choi with a par on the first hole of a playoff. Chip shots: The event took the du Maurier Classic's spot on the schedule in 2001. The du Maurier folded because of Canada's restrictions on tobacco promotions. Jocelyne Bourassa (1973 La Canadienne) is the only Canadian to win an LPGA Tour event in Canada.

Purse: $2 million. Winner: $300,000.

Last year: Bernhard Langer won the last of his five 2010 titles, shooting 66-63-69 to match the tournament record at 18 under.
Last week: Fred Couples birdied the third hole of a playoff with John Cook to win the Seniors Players Championship for his first senior major title. Couples and Cook finished at 11 under at Westchester Country Club in Harrison.
Chip shots: Couples, from Seattle, is in the field. The tour is off the next two weeks.
