High School Football / Countdown to Friday Night Lights -- Class C South

*Who's who: The seven-team division consists of the Allegany-Limestone Gators, Cassadaga Valley Cougars, Cattaraugus/Little Valley Timberwolves, Falconer Falcons, Salamanca Warriors, Southwestern Trojans and the newly combined Westfield/Brocton Wolverines.

*This year's alignment shift: Cattaraugus/Little Valley and Westfield/Brocton are newcomers. While all of the other schools were part of last year's six-team division. Fredonia is in C North this year after playing in C South last season.

*Last year's champion: Southwestern won the division and was undefeated until falling to Fredonia, 12-10, in the Section VI Class C title game.

*2010 rewind: Two-time defending state champion Southwestern went 9-0 to extend its Section VI record win streak to 38 -- until its second meeting with Fredonia at The Ralph. The Trojans had won in Fredonia, 27-20, in Week Six.

*Last year's records: Southwestern 6-0, 9-1; Salamanca 4-2, 5-4; Allegany-Limestone 1-5, 2-7; Cassadaga Valley 1-4, 4-5; Falconer 1-5, 1-7. Cattaraugus/Little Valley was 4-4, 5-5 in Class D East. Westfield was 3-4, 3-4 in Class D West while Brocton lost one game before folding.

*2010 all-league first-team underclassmen: Salamanca juniors RB Ben Haas and TE Jackson John and sophomore DL Cameron Caputi; Cattaraugus/Little Valley juniors DL Josh Forster and DE James Lenahan, Cassadaga Valley junior OL Derek Wise and sophomore RB Jordan Boughton, Westfield juniors LB Tyler Wright and DB Trey North, Allegany-Limestone junior OL Chris McCullough, Falconer junior RB Nathan Sharp, Southwestern junior DB Jake Swan.

*Pre-snap read: No matter how many players return, Southwestern under coach Jay Sirianni continues to be the one to beat, especially with Fredonia having moved out of the division and with the Trojans eager to reclaim their winning ways. Is Salamanca ready for a resurgence? The Warriors host Southwestern in Week Four.

Week One must-see games: Friday night sees a valley-vs.-valley matchup (Cassadaga Valley at Cattaraugus/Little Valley) while Falconer makes the short trip to Southwestern.
