Joseph Anthony Amodeo Sr., retired owner of Superior Meats, died Aug. 13 in Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence.
The Amherst resident was 90.
A Buffalo native and World War II veteran, Mr. Amodeo served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
He was the president of Modern Distributors, a meat distribution business that he started with his wife, Kathryn, in 1949.
He became the owner of Superior Meats in 1976 and worked there until retiring in 1992.
Mr. Amodeo was a member of the Knights of Columbus and, for more than 50 years, was an active member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Amherst.
His wife died in 2009.
He is survived by a daughter, Rose Mary Buscaglia; a son, Joseph Jr.; four sisters, Gloria Yetto, Catherine Gigliotti, Julia Sammarco and Agatha Sammarco; and six brothers, John, Lawrence, Dominic, Frank, James and Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Leo the Great Church, 885 Sweet Home Road, Amherst.
