Mary Ann "Maize" Simonick, an insurance claims supervisor and wife of Buffalo Sabres equipment manager Robert "Rip" Simonick, died Thursday in Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo after a sudden illness. She was 61.
Born Dec. 1, 1949, in Lackawanna, she graduated from Mount Mercy Academy in South Buffalo. She received an associate degree before beginning work as a claims supervisor for OneBeacon Insurance.
Mrs. Simonick is survived by her husband, Rip, who has worked for the Sabres since 1970., most recently as equipment manager. She was the brother of Edward J. "E.J." McGuire, vice president of the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Bureau. He died in April at age 58.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Lake View.
