Buffalo native Mary Wall is casting a feature-length documentary following the lives of Buffalo Sabres fans. The documentary will showcase what it means to be a Buffalonian through the eyes of Sabres fans who maintain faith in their team and their city. The WNY Sting 14-and-under team won the National Softball Association National World Series in Indianapolis. Seventy teams participated in the tournament which began July 25 and continued through July 30. The Sting won eight of its 10 games in the double elimination tournament.


The Clarence Red Devils 12-and-under travel baseball team went 6-0 in round-robin play at Cooperstown Dreams Park last week, earning a No. 1 seed out of 104 teams competing, going into the playoffs. Clarence eventually made it into the Elite Eight, winning games over Kingston, Md., (7-2) and Huguenot, Va., (16-2) before being eliminated by the California Blue Devils, 19-11. During the nine games in the tournament, Clarence hit 20 home runs, including a grand slam by Griffin Schmit and three other blasts in a 23-0 win over Burlingame, Calif.


BASEBALL: The Western New York's finest 13-under baseball team will host an open tryout for the 2012 season on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cazenovia Park, Buffalo. For information or to pre-register, email or call 479-7110.

BOWLING: Jamestown Bowling Company will hold the 16th Annual Labor Day Marathon Tournament at 10 a.m. Sept. 5, 850 Foote Ave., Jamestown. The USBC certified event will include 10 games across the house and total pins plus handicap determine the winner. Entry fee is $50, call 483-1818 to register. . . Erie Community College will a hold a meeting Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at AMF Thruway Lanes, 1550 Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga, for those interested in trying out for the men's or women's teams. FOOTBALL: The Lancaster varsity football teams of 1965-67 will be honored prior to the varsity home game against West Seneca West on Friday night, Sept. 9. Special recognition to those players will be included in the game program and a section of the bleachers will be reserved as well. ICE SKATING: Learn to skate classes for figure skaters and hockey players will be held at Niagara University's Dwyer Arena. SOCCER: The Lancaster Depew Pumas girls under 13 Travel team will hold tryouts Sunday.
