A local sportswear producer has been acquired by an Indianapolis-based sporting goods dealer.
Rally Jungle, which specializes in team and corporate gear, has been bought by the team sports division of LIDS.
The company made a name for itself creating turn-key Web-based merchandising for fundraising. Rally Jungle produces custom-branded apparel for team, school, corporate and charity clients, which are sold through social media Web pages customized for each organization.
Organizations earn money by racking up points with every sale and with every customer who adds the Web page to his or her profile. Rally Jungle produces the merchandise, takes the orders, collects the money and takes care of shipping.
The company produces a full line of apparel, including shirts, hoodies, caps, fleeces and sweat pants. It prints organizations' logos and slogans on gear from Buffalo's New Era Cap Co. as well as other popular national brands such as Under Armour and Columbia.
The University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, Kissing Bridge and Citadel Broadcasting are among the company's clients. Rally Jungle has also produced merchandise for events such as the Taste of Buffalo, Ride for Roswell and Shakespeare in Delaware Park.
LIDS said it was interested in Rally Jungle because of its client relationships and unique merchandising methods. The company will now have access to LIDS' full line of Nike products as well as its screen printing, embroidery and tackle twill network.
John DeWaal, a former vice president at New Era, founded the company in 2009 and will become marketing director for LIDS Sports Group.
LIDS' sports team division and other East Coast operations, including Rally Jungle, are part of Anaconda Sports, a Kingston company acquired by LIDS parent company Hat World last year. LIDS has 975 retail locations in the United States and Canada.
