Woman dies from injuries in motorcycle accident

ALBION -- A Rochester-area woman involved in a motorcycle accident July 30 in Orleans County died Friday.

Pamela J. Keyser, 60, of the Town of Greece, was involved in an accident on Roosevelt Highway in the Town of Carlton. She died in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

The Monroe County medical examiner has been asked to determine a specific cause of death.

Lancaster woman, 53, dies after ATV crash

The driver of an ATV died Saturday after hitting a rough spot and crashing on Aero Drive near Holtz Drive in Cheektowaga,

Police said Deborah Hoddick, 53, of Lancaster, was alert and talking after the accident but later died in Erie County Medical Center.

Cheektowaga police Capt. John A. Glascott said Hoddick is believed to have died of internal injuries.

Glascott said the woman was riding with her 6-year-old grandson, who was not seriously injured and reportedly ran home to alert his grandfather to the accident.

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon, but the woman did not die until later in the day.

Man accused of stealing items from camps for scrap

SOUTH VALLEY -- A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from camp sites along the Allegany River and selling them for scrap for nearly a year, as reported by Cattaraugus County sheriff deputies.

Ward B. Wheeler, 54, no address given, was charged Wednesday with third-degree grand larceny following an investigation by deputies who said additional arrests are pending.

Wheeler is accused of taking items along Route 280 in the towns of South Valley and Coldspring between September and August. Police said that Wheeler stole a pontoon boat and dock system from a camp site in April, cut it up and scrapped it at a local scrap yard.

Following arraignment in South Valley Town Court, Wheeler was taken to the county jail in lieu of bail.

Ellicottville thief gets 6 months in jail, probation

LITTLE VALLEY -- An Ellicottville man who hid in the back seat of a car after committing a burglary has been sentenced in Cattaraugus County Court to jail and probation.

Benjamin M. Robinson, 20, was sentenced by Judge Larry M. Himelein to six months in jail and five years' probation for his guilty plea to third-degree attempted robbery and fourth-degree criminal mischief Jan. 26 at Blood, Sweat and Gears store in Ellicottville.

Police answering a 6 a.m. alarm at the store found the front window broken and Robinson hiding in a car parked out front with a stolen snowboard with the price tag attached.

Sardinia woman faces sentencing on DWI plea

LITTLE VALLEY -- A Sardinia woman who pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated last year will be sentenced Nov. 4 in Cattaraugus County Court.

Dawn M. Close, 48, pleaded guilty to DWI and with a blood alcohol count of 0.15 percent and driving without a license due to a prior alcohol conviction Aug. 25, 2010, in the Town of Yorkshire.

Deputies rescue woman from ledge over gorge

MAYVILLE -- A woman was rescued Saturday night from a ledge overlooking the Chautauqua Gorge.

Trapped near Canada Road in the Town of Chautauqua, the woman was helped off the ledge by Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies and then helped up a hill and out of the gorge by the Chautauqua County Technical Rescue Team and the Mayville Volunteer Fire Department.

Deputies arrest two men on aggravated DWI charges

MAYVILLE -- Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies arrested two people for aggravated driving while intoxicated over the weekend.

Gary Czerwinski, 47, of Orchard Park, was pulled over on Route 20 in the Town of Pomfret at about 2:22 a.m. Sunday and was found to have a 0.18 percent blood alcohol level.

Michael J. Ameno, 47, of Brocton, was arrested at about 12:05 a.m. Saturday on Central Avenue in Brocton. He recorded a 0.18 percent blood alcohol level.

Lumberyard thief set for sentencing Oct. 17

LITTLE VALLEY -- Sentencing has been set for Oct. 17 in Cattaraugus County Court for a Great Valley man who pleaded guilty to a burglary in April at Donver Lumber in Kill Buck.

Jason L. Dille, 36, pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted burglary on April 28 when he and others entered a building at the closed lumber yard and took several hundred pounds of copper.

Amherst driver accused of DWI along Route 242

ELLICOTTVILLE -- An Amherst woman was arrested for drunken driving on Route 242 by Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies who said she failed to use hazard lights. Amanda L. Wenner, 42, of Tonawanda Creek Road, was charged July 31.
