Loss placed at $2,000 in theft at food pantry
A South Buffalo church had more than $2,000 worth of goods stolen from its food pantry, police said Saturday.
Some broke into the storage shed next to St. Simon Episcopal Church, 200 Cazenovia St., according to police reports. Thieves took two cases of school supplies, 10 boxes of gummies, four boxes of health and beauty aids, four boxes of Christmas gifts and 10 cases of water.
Crash into dock results in serious head injury
STOW -- A Lancaster man suffered a serious head injury Friday when his friend crashed a personal watercraft into the dock he was standing on at Lakeside Campground in Hadley Bay, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials said.
The sheriff's marine patrol was alerted to the incident at about 7 p.m.
Investigators said Craig Dulak, 43, of West Seneca was test-driving a personal watercraft, owned by Donald Hayes, 47, of Lancaster. Dulak was apparently going too fast and could not turn or stop the watercraft and ended up crashing into the dock where Hayes was standing. The dock collapsed and Hayes fell, striking his head on the front cleat of a moored pontoon boat, investigators said.
Hayes was transported to WCA Hospital by Ashville Rescue.
Speeding arrest leads to felony DWI charge
A Perrysburg man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated after he was pulled over for speeding on Route 438 near Brant Farnham Road in Brant just after 8 p.m. Friday, Erie County sheriff's officials said.
Charles T. Jimerson, 43, was charged with felony DWI because of a DWI conviction from 2006, deputies said. He also was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed driving.
Man shot in stomach is listed in fair condition
A man who was shot twice in the stomach Friday night was listed in fair condition Saturday in Erie County Medical Center, Northeast District police said.
About 9:30 p.m., Darnell Mobley, 24, was accosted on Collins Walk by a man with a black revolver who demanded Mobley's money and cellphone, police said. As Mobley ran away, police said, the man shot him twice in the stomach ,and he collapsed in the 300 block of Edison Avenue.
Man sprayed, shocked in robbery at his home
Central District police are investigating the attack on a man about 4 a.m. Saturday at his home in the vicinity of Jefferson Avenue and Clinton Street.
The victim said he was attacked by a man who was an acquaintance and a woman he did not know and sprayed with pepper spray, shot with a Taser-type weapon and punched in the mouth.
Police said the male attacker kicked in the front door of the victim's apartment, which was ransacked, a chair hurled through a living-room window.
Overnight stops yield two felony DWI suspects
Two men were charged with felony counts of driving while intoxicated overnight Friday by state police based in the Collins barracks, officials said.
In Collins, a trooper pulled over a vehicle on Route 438 because of a loud exhaust, police said. The operator, Jesse A. Mekowski, 30, of North Collins, had hydrocodone pills and was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and felony DWI because of a previous DWI conviction.
Also, troopers patrolling Bush Road on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation spotted a smashed-up car off the roadway. The operator, Jay D. Stafford, 21, of Irving, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries in Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, police said. Police said before he crashed, Stafford drove by other troopers at a high rate of speed, almost hitting one. He was charged with felony DWI and move-over law violations.
3 overnight robberies register on police radar
At least three robberies were reported overnight Friday throughout Buffalo, police said.
At 8:16 p.m., a worker at the United Express Deli, 1097 Genesee St., said a man went behind the counter and pushed him before stealing cash from the register, police said.
About 11:30 p.m., four men mugged a man in the 1300 block of Broadway, stealing his wallet and 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, police said.
About 2:30 a.m., a woman was accosted by two men who robbed her of $70 in cash and her purse at Wakefield and Fillmore avenues, police said.
