Columbus McKinnon Corp., a designer, manufacturer and marketer of material handling products, appointed Karen L. Howard vice president, strategic initiatives. Howard was most recently vice president, finance and CFO. Howard is a certified public accountant and a Niagara University graduate. Also, the company named Gregory P. Rustowicz vice president, finance and CFO. Rustowicz previously was the vice president, finance for momentive performance materials. He is a graduate of Canisius College and earned a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University.

Hilbert College President Cynthia Zane was named vice-chairwoman of the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities board of directors. Zane assumed office as Hilbert's third president in 2006. Previously, she was chief academic officer and dean of the faculty at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. She earned a doctorate from Northern Illinois University, a master's degree from Rush University, and a bachelor's degree from Saint Xavier University.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center named David J. Steinwald director of human resources. Steinwald, who earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University at Buffalo, most recently served as director of human resources for the Eastern Niagara Health System.

New Era Cap Co., a Buffalo-based premium headwear manufacturer, promoted Barbara Noyes to vice president global headwear. Noyes was previously senior director lifestyle. Also, the company named Kelli Coppola global director of brand marketing and Clint Perez director of North America marketing. Coppola was most recently director of marketing at the company. She previously owned her own marketing agency and worked for top ad agencies such as McCann Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather. Previously, Perez served as director of marketing for Best Buy and vice president of marketing for Discovery Communications.

New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants appointed Robert W. Irwin chairman of its Peer Review Committee for the 2011-12 year. Irwin is a graduate of the University at Buffalo, and was a partner in R.A. Mercer & Co. from 1973 until 2005. He is now an audit manager and peer reviewer with the firm. R.A. Mercer & Co., a CPA firm established in 1972, has offices in Cattaraugus, Springville, Sardinia and Orchard Park.
