Ethel M. Schippnick, a senior claims examiner with the New York State Department of Labor, died Wednesday in her Kenmore home after a brief illness. She was 95.
Born in Buffalo, the former Ethel Koopman was a 1934 graduate of Kenmore High School.
Mrs. Schippnick began her career in 1938 with the state Department of Labor, in the Unemployment Insurance Department. During a career spanning 33 years she became a senior claims examiner and retired in 1978.
An avid bridge player, Mrs. Schippnick also was a league bowler and played golf -- shooting two holes-in-one.
She was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and belonged to the Civil Service Employees Association Retirement Group.
Her husband of 52 years, John A., died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, James.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Andrew Church, 1525 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
