After struggling the first few days of camp with the deep ball, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receiver Lee Evans finally hooked up for a long bomb down the left sideline during 11-on-11 drills.

Evans had cornerback Leodis McKelvin beaten by at least three feet when Fitzpatrick lofted the pass perfectly into his numbers, much to the delight of a small gathering of fans at St. John Fisher.

Sideline views

The Bills ran several screen passes and while Chan Gailey said it wasn't pretty, the screen play will be emphasized this season. During one-on-one drills, nose tackle Torell Troup looked solid again Tuesday, and beat center Eric Wood twice. Linebacker Chris Kelsay made a good inside move to beat tackle Erik Pears. Meanwhile, center Geoff Hangartner used good technique to stonewall rookie tackle Michael Jasper. Kicker Chris Hazley connected on back-to-back 53-yard field goals. In 11-on-11, linebacker Aaron Maybin and rookie corner Aaron Williams took some snaps with the first team in nickel coverage. Linebacker Shawne Merriman continues to look impressive in the early going of camp and twice blew by tackle Demetrius Bell for sacks. In 7-on-7, Fitzpatrick and backup Levi Brown completed 19 of 20 passes, including their first 15.

Quote of the day

"Everybody used to talk about us and say we had "Camp Marv." I would say they're truly in the lap of luxury right now. I don't see a whole lot of hard about anything they're doing. It's a matter of making it through one practice a day." -- Former Bills LB Darryl Talley
