Event: Bridgestone Invitational.

Site: Akron, Ohio. Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Firestone Country Club, South Course (7,400 yards, par 70).

Purse: $8.5 million. Winner: $1.4 million.

TV: Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 2-6 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, noon-1:30 p.m.) and CBS (Saturday-Sunday, 2-6 p.m.).

Last year: Hunter Mahan won the second of his two 2010 titles, finishing with a 6-under 64 for a two-shot victory. Tiger Woods closed with a 77 to tie for 78th in the 80-man field at 18-over 298 -- 30 strokes behind Mahan. It was Woods' highest 72-hole score on the PGA Tour as a professional or an amateur.

Last week: PGA Tour rookie Scott Stallings won The Greenbrier Classic, beating Bob Estes and Bill Haas with a birdie on the first hole off a playoff.

Chip shot: U.S. Open winner Rory McIlroy and British Open champion Darren Clarke are in the elite field. Clarke won the 2003 event.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Montreux Golf and Country Club (7,472 yards, par 72).

Purse: $3 million. Winner: $540,000.

TV: Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 6:30-9 p.m.; Sunday, 7-9 p.m.).

Last year: Matt Bettencourt won his first PGA Tour title, beating Bob Heintz by a stroke. The tournament was opposite the British Open.

Event: 3M Championship.

Site: Blaine, Minn.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: TPC Twin Cities (7,100 yards, par 72).

Purse: $1.75 million. Winner: $262,500.

TV: Golf Channel (Friday, noon-1:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 4-6 p.m.).

Last year: South Africa's David Frost matched the tour record for a 54-hole event at 25-under 191, eagling the final hole for an 11-under 61 and a five-stroke victory.

Last week: Olin Browne won the U.S. Senior Open at Inverness, holding off Mark O'Meara by three strokes. Browne shot 64-69-65-71.

Chip shots: Minnesotan Tom Lehman, a three-time winner this year, teamed with Arnold Palmer to design TPC Twin Cities. Eight-time PGA Tour winner Brad Faxon is making his Champions Tour debut. He turned 50 on Monday. Fred Couples is making his first start since missing the cut in the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament in early June.
