BRAATZ, Pearl Mary (Uhl)

BRAATZ - Pearl Mary (nee Uhl)
Born February 9, 1927 - July 31, 2011; passed away on July 31, 2011 following complications from surgery. Her beloved sister Lorraine Madalain McCoy preceded her in death just hours earlier after a prolonged period of ill health. Pearl was born in Buffalo where her parents, George and Elizabeth (Albrecht) Uhl, met and married after immigrating to the US from Germany. As the oldest of five children, Pearl was called upon at an early age to be responsible for family, a trait she never lost. A proud graduate of the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, she remained friends with her fellow "Sacred Heart girls" for over 70 years. Pearl attended business college and worked for Austindorf Motors before employing her accounting skills for the family business, Uhl's Bakery, a fixture on Hertel Ave. for over 60 years. Anyone who was lucky enough to eat custard cream doughnuts, Mother's Bread, pastries or Fastnachts from Uhl's Bakery always remembers how great they were. Every customer was a friend and Pearl never forgot a name ---she called everyone "Honey." An accomplished sewer, quilter and card shark, maker of traditional German dishes and non-stop talker, Pearl never turned down a chance to socialize with friends, family or complete strangers. We will miss her kindness, good heart and beautiful smile. Pearl was married to Darrell (Smiley) Braatz until his passing in 1994. She is survived by her son Mark/Skip (Mimi) and daughter Nancy Judas (Michael); grandchildren Lauren (Ryan) Stark, Mark Braatz, Josef and Liesel Judas and a great grandson, Max Stark. Family present Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the PERNA DENGLER ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME, 1306 Hertel ave. Buffalo. Family & Friends are asked to assemble at Holy Spirit RC church Thursday at 9:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial. For those that are interested, donations can be made in her memory to the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart Scholarship Fund - 3860 Main St. Buffalo, NY 14226-3350 or Online condolences at
