Ernest Dellas, a retired plant superintendent for International Multifoods Corp. in Buffalo, died Sunday in his Amherst home. He was 82.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Dellas was a graduate of Bennett High School and the University of Buffalo's Millard Fillmore College. He served in the Army, as a military police officer, during the Korean War.
Before his military service, he had worked at and subsequently managed movie theaters in Jamestown and Bradford, Pa., and worked a couple of years as a machine operator at the Chevrolet plant in the Town of Tonawanda.
Mr. Dellas worked for International Multifoods' flour mill in Buffalo from 1955 to 1988, retiring as plant superintendent. He later worked as secretary/treasurer for the Dutch Haus restaurant in East Aurora until 1997.
He had served as a Republican Party committeeman in Amherst and was a member of Amherst Township Post 416, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and UB's Delta Sigma Pi fraternity.
His first wife, Theodora Demopolous Dellas, died in 1968, and his second wife, Carole Brooks Dellas, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Mark; two sisters, Elenie Basil and Demitra Xinakes; and four stepchildren, Frank and Leslie Brill, Tracy Luczak and Craig Brooks.
A funeral liturgy will be at noon today in Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 146 W. Utica St.
