GETTING TO KNOW YOU -- The Jamestown chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a luncheon at 1 p.m. July 14 in the Athenaeum Hotel at Chautauqua Institution for all those who would like to meet chapter members and learn more about the organization. Members of the Sons of the Revolution, Children of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Association also are welcome. Reservations are needed by July 7. For info, e-mail


TAKE YOUR SEATS -- Openings are still available in September for kindergarten students at the only Catholic school in Cheektowaga, Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School at 170 Rosewood Terrace, off George Urban Boulevard. PORTER PARTY -- Food, vendors, live bands, children's attractions and a fireworks display over Lake Ontario will be featured in Porter on the Lake Summerfest from 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday in Porter on the Lake Park on Dietz Road off Route 18 in the Town of Porter. Bands include 90 West, the JJ Swing Band and Rip & the Bandogs. Activities for youngsters will be from 3 to 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the festival, formerly held on Labor Day, will go toward improvements at the park, according to organizers Larry and Linda White and Jeff and Gloria Baker. Admission is $5. Kids 12 and under are free. Call 754-2901.


MILITARY NOTES -- Two graduating seniors at St. Bonaventure University have been commissioned as Army second lieutenants after completing the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the university.

They are Joshua M. Marino, son of Louis and Tina Marino of Allegany, a 2007 graduate of Allegany-Limestone High School, and Kristopher R. Gustafson, son of Alan and Nina Gustafson, a 2006 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central High School, Sinclairville. Marino also received the George C. Marshall Award, presented to the outstanding Army ROTC senior at each college, in ceremonies at Virginia Military Institute.
