Program donates $2,000 left in fund balance

LEWISTON -- The Lewiston-Porter Community Ambassador program donated the remaining $2,000 of its fund balance to the international studies program at Lew-Port High School last week.

The program sponsored the travels of one or more high school students every summer to a foreign country for four to six weeks. After 56 years, it is no longer sustainable, said program board member Jim Marsh.

Amy Townsend, co-director of the high school's foreign exchange program, said the funds will be used to establish a scholarship that would allow students who would otherwise be unable to participate in the school's program.
