*Collin Kemeny, a sophomore at Lewiston-Porter High School, was honored with a third-place award at the Persis Vehar Competition for Excellence in Composition, sponsored by the Canisius College Music Department.
Collin's composition, "Azure for Orchestra, Op. 15," was recognized as an outstanding submission for its creativity and musical maturity. This was Collin's first submission to a composition competition. First prize was awarded to Brad Whitney of East Aurora High School and second prize was awarded to Aaron Robertson of Williamsville East High School.
Collin plays alto saxophone at Lew-Port, and also studies oboe, piano and cello. He has performed with the Niagara All-County Band and recently auditioned for All-State. He is also an accomplished athlete (soccer, swim, track, cycling and triathlons) and has earned honors for academic achievement. This summer, he will study composition at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan.
