Who?: Derek Bassett, vocal, guitars; Thom Davis, drums; Joelle Labert, vocals; Nathan Montague, harmonica, acoustic guitar; Michael Tinsmon, bass.
What?: Bona fide Buffalo Americana outfit blends strong songwriting with roots music virtuosity. A unique take on traditional American music.
Why?: In 2007, when Flatbed released its self-titled debut, I opined that it revealed "an instantly likable, home-brewed, country-based collection of songs splitting the difference between the cosmic American music of Gram Parsons and New Riders of the Purple Sage and the folk-based country of Emmylou Harris." As the band prepares for the release of its new album, I'll stand by my own words!
What's next?: Flatbed performs at 9:30 tonight in the Sportsmen's Tavern & Music Hall (326 Amherst St.). The band promises two sets of music. It's $3 at the door.
