Ann Gainey of West Seneca, a longtime teacher and assistant principal at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School in Orchard Park, died Monday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. She was 78.
Born Ann Carroll in Buffalo, she was a graduate of Bishop Quigley High School. After graduation, she began teaching at St. Stephen's School. She also taught fifth grade at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School for many years and eventually became assistant principal at the school.
Mrs. Gainey graduated from Medaille College in 1975. She retired from teaching in 2003 at age 70.
Her husband of 54 years, Leo R. Sr., died in 2009.
She is survived by a daughter, Coleen Laski; a son, Leo R. Jr.; three brothers, Patrick, George and James Carroll; and three sisters, Betty Zajac, Fran Carroll and Mary Ellen Ulman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3148 Abbott Road, Orchard Park.
