Bills to unveil new uniforms

Hall of Famer Jim Kelly and Booker Edgerson are among the Buffalo Bills alumni who will appear at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Friday evening for the unveiling of the team's new uniforms.

Complimentary tickets for the 6:30 p.m. Uniform Launch event are available in person at select Verizon Wireless locations, all Erie County M&T Bank branches, and at the Ralph Wilson Stadium ticket office.


NFL talks continue with Boston-area meeting

NFL owners and players met in the Boston area Wednesday in the latest attempt to work out a new collective bargaining agreement, a person with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press.

Commissioner Roger Goodell and members of his labor committee resumed negotiations with players' association chief DeMaurice Smith and several players on Wednesday. A day earlier, NFL owners were briefed on recent progress about a new CBA.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the negotiations are confidential.


U.S. side moves on in Gold Cup soccer

Clint Dempsey scored in the 77th minute off an assist from Landon Donovan, and the United States advanced to the Gold Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Panama on Wednesday night.

The Americans will play in the biennial tournament's championship game for the fourth straight time after avenging a 2-1 loss to Panama on June 11.

Freddy Adu made a long-awaited return to American soccer in the second half, and set up the winning play with a cross-field pass to Donovan, who played in his 27th consecutive Gold Cup match to extend his own record.

The U.S. will play the winner of Honduras-Mexico semifinal for the championship at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.


Bolea to coach D'Youville tennis

Nick Bolea of North Tonawanda was named coach of women's tennis at D'Youville College.

A three-time Niagara Frontier League singles champion at Niagara-Wheatfield High School, Bolea began his collegiate playing career at Slippery Rock University. When The Rock dropped the sport after his freshman year, Bolea transferred to Niagara and played three seasons before graduating in 2009.

D'Youville was 9-1 last season and finished second at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship.


Team USA bowling selects Liz Johnson

Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga was selected for the Team USA women's squad to compete in the World Tenpin Bowling Association Championship on Sept. 3-11 in Hong Kong.

Others named to the team are: Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie, Texas, Shannon O'Keefe of Arlington, Texas, and Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio.
