Don your dancing shoes -- a free community street dance to kick off summer vacation is slated for 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday on Main Street.
Main Street will be closed from Lockport Street to Hinman Street for the festivities.
"We picked the last day of school [for the Lewiston-Porter school district] for this, to celebrate the end of school and beginning of summer vacation," said Cheryl Butera, president of the Youngstown Business and Professional Association. The association is sponsoring the event, along with the village.
"We also extended it an hour over last year's street dance for the families involved in the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League at Fort Niagara State Park on Thursday nights, so they could be involved, too," Butera said.
The Carl Motyka Band will perform; pony rides, face-painting and a bounce house will also be featured. The Youngstown Lions Club will offer free popcorn, and Ashker's will distribute free cotton candy, Butera said.
The business association also ordered 700 beach balls to distribute free -- nearly triple the amount of last year's tally, to be sure that everyone who wants one, gets one.
"We had about 500 attend last year, and we're hoping for even more this year," Butera said. "And, it's held rain or shine. People should bring a lawn chair, if they'd like to have a place to sit."
Food and drink will be available for sale, and local businesses will display their wares for purchase. The village also will sell flags with the village emblem, T-shirts and drink insulators.
"This is very family-oriented," Butera said of the street dance. "There is something for everyone, and it's all-around, good, clean fun."
