Property maintenance poses Dunkirk concern

Property maintenance issues were addressed by several residents Tuesday during the regular meeting of the City Council.

Residents from the area of Eagle and Swan streets have formed a neighborhood group and said they have brought several complaints to the city building and zoning code-enforcement office.

Councilwoman Stacy Szukala, representing the 4th Ward, said residents in her neighborhood also have concerns. She said she is communicating with railroad officials in an attempt to get the grass and weeds trimmed on railroad property in her neighborhood.

In other matters:

* The Council voted, 3-2, in favor of pulling a resolution from the agenda regarding sharing the services of the animal-control officer with the Town of Dunkirk.

* Mayor Richard L. Frey said that more than 10,000 people visited the Wreck and Roll Festival held last weekend on the city pier.

* A policy for whistle-blowers was approved after a public hearing.
