WALTON - Sharon Elizabeth
63, passed away June 17, 2011, in Corpus Christi, TX. Sharon was born in Buffalo, NY, November 24, 1947 to Lee H. and Mary Elizabeth Stafford. Sharon dedicated herself to making a difference in the education of special needs children throughout her career spanning four decades. She began teaching at the Cantalician Center for Learning in Buffalo, working with developmentally- disabled children. Following that, she worked with emotionally- and behaviorally-disturbed children in residence at Baker Hall. Rising to the position of principal, she assumed full responsibility for the education and welfare of hundreds of troubled children. Upon moving to Corpus Christi, TX, in 1985, Sharon continued her teaching career in South Texas at Incarnate Word Elementary as a language arts enrichment teacher. Later, Sharon served Flour Bluff ISD as a teacher and then Director of Special Education. She spent her career helping thousands of students, families, and staff. Sharon was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. Sharon always saw the good in people, was a friend to everyone she met, and will be dearly missed. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Betty Stafford, and sister-in-law, Julia Grace Walton. She is survived by her adoring husband, William W. Walton III, of Corpus Christi; son Brendan P. Harrington of Washington, DC; sister Sheila (Joseph) Batt of Tampa, FL; brothers Patrick G. (Sandra) Stafford of Buffalo and Michael L. (Sharon) Stafford of Buffalo; sister-in-law Ermengarde (Richard) Waddell of El Campo, TX, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving extended family. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 21 at 7 PM at Seaside Reid Chapel in Corpus Christi. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 22 at 10 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
