Building Controls and Services, based in the City of Tonawanda, named Christian Bakula an automation systems technician in the Tonawanda office. Bakula developed an extensive background in electronics technology while serving in the Air Force and stationed in Biloxi, Miss. BCS, which has regional offices in Henrietta, Falconer and Erie, Pa., provides mechanical HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) automated environmental controls systems and services.

Inergex Inc., a Buffalo-based IT services company, named Dan Bardwell an information technology service management consultant and project manager. Bardwell previously worked as an IT field services manager at Cricket Communications for nine years. A Bryant & Stratton College graduate, he will complete a bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2011. Also, the company named Erik Schreppel a business intelligence developer. Schreppel, who has an associate's degree from Paul Smith's College, previously worked as a business intelligence specialist at Catalyst and as a manager of report services at SoftPro Corp.

Lumsden & McCormick principal Jill M. Schaefer has successfully completed and earned the Health Care Financial Management Association Certificate of Advanced Technical Study for Mastering Healthcare Accounting and Finance.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce held its Small Business Awards luncheon recently, honoring the following: Small Business of the Year, e3communications; President's Award, Business First; Small Business Advocate, Janine Tramont, UB School of Management Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership; Revitalization Award, The Irishman Pub and Eatery; Award for Excellence, Russell Salvatore; Innovation Award, Tactus Technologies; and Sponsor's Award presented by First Niagara, Bocce Club Pizza.

Lawley Benefits Group of Upstate New York and Empower Associated Services of Syracuse have announced a joint venture to provide Empower Federal Credit Union's members an expanded and comprehensive array of insurance products and solutions.

Under the new arrangement, EAS will offer Lawley's comprehensive products and services to EAS clients. Lawley is a Buffalo-based employee-benefits consulting firm.

Crowley Webb, a marketing communications agency in Buffalo, recently won six honors at the American Graphic Design and Advertising annual awards. Crowley Webb was honored for logos and trademarks created for ESAB Weld Warrior, Horizon House, Erba Verde Farms, Dash Dog Running and Vipertex. It won a Best of Category award for GrowWNY. The nationwide awards competition, sponsored by American Corporate Identity Book, showcases the best graphic design and advertising in America.

Tops Markets and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Buffalo presented a $17,500 check to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in support of patient care programs at Roswell Park. The partnership between Tops and Coca-Cola raised funds through the sale of 2-liter bottles of Coca-Cola products at area Tops locations during late 2010 and early 2011.
