Two mugged and robbed after hours on Chippewa
Two people told police they were attacked and robbed early Saturday morning in the city's Chippewa District.
The two victims said they were walking to their vehicle on Pearl Street, between Chippewa and West Tupper streets, at about 4:20 a.m., when they were attacked by six to eight people and robbed of their belongings, according to police. The victims told police they did know at least one of their attackers.
Buffalo man undeterred by 17 driving suspensions
A motorist with 17 current driving suspensions was arrested during a traffic stop on Route 219 in the Town of Boston Saturday afternoon.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputy James Flowers stopped the vehicle for speeding at about 2:30 p.m. on Route 219, near Shero Road, sheriff's officials said.
A license check showed that the driver had 17 current driving suspensions, most of which were for failing to pay fines from local communities in Erie and Monroe counties.
The driver, Ezbon Benti Jodi, 29, of Buffalo, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, sheriff's officials said.
Jodi was arraigned in Town of Boston Court and taken to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $100 bail.
Victim of stray bullet upgraded to fair condition
The condition of Joseph Anderson, who was hit in the chest by a stray bullet at a Genesee Street nightclub early Friday morning, has been upgraded to fair in Erie County Medical Center, hospital officials said today.
Anderson, 32, who works at the nightclub as a cook, has been moved to a regular room as he recovers from the gunshot wound suffered during a flurry of shots fired from outside Jazzy's Bar, 2227 Genesee St., at about 3 a.m. Friday. That shooting was part of recent gun violence that also claimed the life of an 18-year-old Buffalo man.
Woman passed out at home misses visit by burglar
NIAGARA FALLS -- A LaSalle Avenue woman who passed out after a night of drinking was the victim of a burglar who stole her 42-inch TV set, police said.
The unlocked second-floor apartment was entered between 2 and 8:30 a.m. by a burglar who carefully disconnected the DVD player, but did not take it, then made sure to lock the apartment door when he left.
South Buffalo stabbing caught on video camera
A man was stabbed in the back and chest with a knife by an unknown assailant in South Buffalo, police said Saturday.
Jeffrey Dumas, no age listed, was treated in Erie County Medical Center, then released. The attack occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Abbott Road and Cazenovia Street, according to reports.
The Princeton Place victim said a man with dark hair in his late 20s and wearing a green shirt used a switchblade to stab him in the back and chest. The attacker then fled on a red bicycle. Further information was unavailable. The attack was captured on a Buffalo Police Department surveillance camera at the intersection of Abbott and Cazenovia, police said.
Attack early Saturday puts Villenova man in jail
VILLENOVA -- A Chautauqua County man is in jail on charges of assault and criminal mischief after an early morning incident Saturday on South Hill Road, sheriff's officials said.
Deputies were summoned at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday to a residence on South Hill Road, where they found Paul Giambrone, 53, beating up another person and destroying personal property, sheriff's officials said. Giambrone ran out of the house and through a field when deputies tried to speak with him, officials said.
He was found a short time later with the help of the K-9 unit and charged with third-degree assault, felony criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest, sheriff's officials said.
Giambrone was arraigned in Stockton Court and taken to Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Menacing charge lodged in threat with a sword
NIAGARA FALLS -- A 19th Street man accused of threatening two women with a sword about 6 p.m. Friday was charged with second-degree menacing.
Police said Walter H. Garcia, 20, shouted threats at the two as they walked past his home, then grabbed the sword from his vehicle.
