Poetry and Literature Calendar (June 19 to June 25)

Monday, 7 p.m.: Louise Nayer will read from her memoir "Burned" (Atlas Books, 2010) at 7 p.m. Monday at Talking Leaves Books, 3158 Main St. The book recounts the childhood trauma of the explosion and fire that severely burned her parents when she was 4 years old. She studied at the University of Buffalo in the 1970s with poets John Logan, Carl Dennis and Robert Creeley and recently retired from full-time teaching after 27 years at the City College of San Francisco.

Tuesday, 6 to 9 p.m.: BlazeVox Books reading and book signing featuring three Lockport-based authors: fiction writer Chuck Richardson ("So It Seams" and "Smoke"), poet Jared Schickling ("O", "Submissions" and "Aurora") and poet Marc Pietrzykowski ("The Logic of Clouds"). Karma Cafe, 21 Main St., Lockport.

Wednesday, 7 p.m: Reading with Tess Lojacono, an East Aurora-based artist and writer whose first novel "Milagros" has just been published by Laughing Cactus Press. Talking Leaves Books, 3158 Main St.

Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m.: Discussion with Paul Finkelman, author of "Millard Fillmore: The American Presidents Series" (Times Books). Finkelman is the President William McKinley distinguished professor of law and public policy and senior fellow in the Government Law Center at Albany Law School. Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society Museum, 25 Nottingham Court.

Thursday, 7 to 9:30 p.m.: Tangential Series Open poetry and prose reading hosted by Andrea Zysk and George Georgakis. Rust Belt Books, 202 Allen St. $2.

Friday, 7 p.m.: Fourth Friday Series reading featuring poet Gene Grabiner. Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road. $2.

Friday, 7 p.m.: Queer Vibes Quarterly Reading Series featuring a reading of "Walt Whitman, Oscar Wilde," a play by Loren Keller, as performed by the playwright and Queer Vibes Series organizer and host Marek P. Parker. Buffalo East, 1412 Main St. $2.

Friday, 7 to 9 p.m.: Book signing with former Buffalo News employee Joe Kirchmyer, author of "Diamonds in the Rough" (No Frills Buffalo Press). Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca.

Saturday, 7 p.m.: Before the AfterGlow, an open poetry and prose reading hosted by Mark C. Lloyd. Rust Belt Books, 202 Allen St. $5.
