NORFOLK, Va. -- A seven run sixth inning helped the Norfolk Tides wash away the Buffalo Bisons, 9-0, at Harbor Park Friday night. It's the fourth time this season the Herd has been shutout.
Tides starter Rick VandenHurk (4-7) and two relievers combined for the shutout. VandenHurk pitched five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out three with one walk.
Mark Cohoon (1-3) started with three scoreless innings for the Bisons (28-41) before getting into trouble in the fourth.
Cohoon opened the inning with a single and a walk. He then allowed the game's first run off a Tyler Henson line drive.
Cohoon was relieved in the sixth after allowing a Jake Fox two-run home run. Brian Sweeney yielded five more runs in 2/3 of an inning of work.
Infielder Michael Fisher extended his hit streak to 11 games for the Herd, going 1 for 3. Figueroa had his streak snapped at 11 games following an 0-for-4 night.
The Bisons play Norfolk again tonight with Dylan Owen (2-3) getting the start for Buffalo against Brad Bergesen (2-1) of the Tides (7:15, Radio 1520).
