Behind the Scenes

The Juneteenth Festival is seeking volunteer attendants for the 2011 festival. The volunteers will help with general event setup and breakdown. Volunteers are also needed for specific areas such as the health pavilion, the Juneteenth parade, the children's activity tent and the entertainment stage.

The Western New York Theatre Alliance is holding a workshop on unarmed stage combat from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays starting Tuesday through June 28 at the Second Presbyterian Church, 71 Van Buren St., Lockport.

Participants will learn the basics of performing unarmed stage combat safely, including falls, rolls, throws, punches, kicks and chokes. Students will write and perform four fight scenes and will receive a DVD of their performances.

Auditions

*Auditions for Hilbert College's production of "The Snow Queen and Match Girl" will be held May 22 in the atrium of the college's Swan Theater. Ballet, tap and modern dancers are welcome, as are actors, singers, gymnasts and musicians of all ages.

Calls for Work

*The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center is accepting submissions for its annual Beyond the Barrel Art Exhibition, on display from June 24 through Aug. 28 in NACC's Main Gallery, 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.

The exhibition is open to all artists. Two-dimensional works must be framed and wired for installation; three-dimensional pieces must have a clean, nonabrasive base or be mounted on a pedestal. All artwork must be original and installed by the artist.

Exhibition pieces will be eligible for prizes: $300 for first place, $200 for second place, $100 for third place and $50 for fourth place.

All submitted work must be priced for sale and priced to include a 25 percent commission for NACC. There is an entry fee of $30 for the first two pieces. Two more pieces may be entered for $10 each.
