Roger A. Foote, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, active churchman and owner of a Newfane insurance agency, died Thursday in Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was 88.
Born in Barker, Mr. Foote was a graduate of Barker Central School and served as a corporal in the motor vehicle pool and in Panama during the war.
He founded Foote Agency Inc. in Newfane, which he owned and operated from 1948 to 1984.
Mr. Foote, a member of Barker's Faith United Methodist Church since 1935, served as chairman of the building committee and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years.
Active in the community, he served as president of the Barker Lions Club and also was a member of Somerset Lodge 639 F the American Legion; Lockport Tuscarora Club; and Olcott Yacht Club. He also was a Little League coach and member of the Hartland Central Cemetery board.
Mr. Foote also played trumpet in the New York All-State Band.
He and his wife of 62 years, the former Frances O'Neill, spent winters in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., since 1973.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Robert and Richard; three daughters, Jacqueline Wagner, Beverly Mandeville and Diane Wooleyhan; and a sister, Joan Dickenson.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Faith United Methodist Church, Quaker Road, Barker.
