Two special events set to celebrate Dyngus Day
NIAGARA FALLS -- Dyngus Day will be celebrated beginning at 5 p.m. today at the Hard Rock Cafe Niagara Falls, 333 Prospect St., and at the Dyngus Day tent around the corner on Old Falls Street.
The event will include Polish food and beverages, Polish-themed games and an attempt to create the world's largest pierogi. Fritz's Polka Band will perform, beginning at 6 p.m.
Admission to the tent is $5 for adults; free for children.

GOP Committee to vote on endorsements Tuesday
NIAGARA FALLS -- The Niagara Falls Republican Committee will vote on the endorsement of candidates for local offices during a meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Giacomo Hotel, 222 First St.
Candidates who have not already been interviewed by the committee will be invited to speak briefly, regardless of their political affiliation. The meeting will be open to the public.
The committee plans to endorse candidates for mayor, members of the City Council and the Niagara County Legislature representing Niagara Falls.
Annual Jazz & Pasta event will be held Sunday
LEWISTON -- The fourth annual Jazz & Pasta will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Water Street Landing, 115 S. Water St.
Tickets are $20, and proceeds help support the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival on Aug. 26 and 27.
Jazz & Pasta features food from local restaurants and jazz, and includes a basket auction and 5 0/5 0 raffle. Scheduled to perform are the Ron Corsaro Trio, Dave Scott Trio, Caputi and Co. and Janice Mitchell and Jim Beishline.
The Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival on Center Street, in its 10th year, is a free event, with jazz on the streets and in several village restaurants. More than 30,000 people attend annually.
Tickets for Jazz & Pasta are available at Water Street Landing; Lewiston Village Hall, 145 N. Third St.; Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, 100 N. Third St.; First Niagara, 500 Center St.; by calling Niagara USA Chamber of Commerce at 285-1702. Tickets also are available at the door.

Airport snow removal earns national honor
Buffalo Niagara International Airport has been honored by the American Association of Airport Executives for its snow removal efforts at the group's recent meeting in Buffalo.
The group's Northeast Chapter presented the Balchen/Post Award for Outstanding Achievement to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, the airport operator. The award recognizes the airport's snow removal team with a first-place citation in the category of medium-sized commercial airports.
It marks the sixth time in the award's 35-year history that the Buffalo airport has received the recognition.
