Here is the perfect concert for Good Friday a collection of music through the centuries, by composers whose lives overlapped. The concert takes an hour, with no intermission, and it begins with a 13th-century "Pange Lingua" and a 14th-century "Ave Verum." It then stretches through music by Palestrina, Bach, Haydn, Schubert, Bruckner, Brahms, Charles Villiers Stanford and Marcel Dupre. We wind up in the present -- well, in 1997, with a "Pange Lingua" by Lynn Trapp.
The concert takes place at 7 tonight in St. Joseph Cathedral (50 Franklin St.). Performing will be the Cathedral Choir, under the direction of organist/choir master Tim Socha. Admission is by free-will offering. All are welcome.
