Dr. Michael A. Rauh was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons during ceremonies at the academy's 2011 Annual Meeting in San Diego recently. Dr. Rauh has offices at the University Orthopaedic Center, Southtowns in Orchard Park and at the North Main Medical Building in Warsaw. Rauh is a clinical assistant professor with the University at Buffalo and is the head team physician and orthopaedic consultant for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League. He is also head or assistant team physician to several Western New York area high schools and colleges.

The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce recognized the following 2010 Citizen of the Year award recipients: Business, Todd and Danielle St. Onge, owners of Island Deli and Meat Market; Business Person, Thomas J. Kanaley, general manager of Fuccillo Chevrolet; Organization, St. Stephen's Parish Players, Community Theater Group; Civic, Dr. Sherry Bradford, founder of Advanced Cancer Theragnostics, Advanced Cancer Theragnostics, International, Advanced Research in Cancer; Community Service, Pat Shaw; and Education, Lynn Ortiz.

The Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau and First Main Media have partnered to release a new video to promote the National Garden Festival running from June 24 to July 31. The video features footage of Garden Walk Buffalo, the festival's Front Yard Garden Competition, the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens, Buffalo's Frederick Law Olmsted-designed parks and Forest Lawn. The video can be found on YouTube and at www.nationalgardenfestival.com.

The Ira G. Ross Eye Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology, University at Buffalo, was awarded a five-year, $1.95 million grant to conduct research on retinal development, with the long-term goal of improved treatment of retinal diseases from the National Eye Institute, part of the National Institute for Health. Dr. Xiuqian Mu, wrote the grant application and is the lead research scientist for the project.
