Scouting Report / Game Three

Series: Tied, 1-1.

Faceoff: 7 p.m., HSBC Arena.

TV: MSG. Radio: 550 AM.

Thumbs up

Chris Butler. Follows 26:04 of ice time in Game One with 27:08 in Game Two. Spectacular coming-out party.

Claude Giroux & James van Riemsdyk. Both scored in Game Two and JVR has a series-high 10 shots on goal. He's been a beast.

Mike Grier. Series-high 11 hits, great work on the PK unit.

***

Thumbs down

Steve Montador/Andrej Sekera. What in the world has happened to them?

Brad Boyes. Has to stop channeling his inner Raffi Torres and show why a deadline guy making $4M is worth it.

Sergei Bobrovsky. You sensed Flyers didn't fully believe and he got a quick hook in Game Two.

***

Keys for the Sabres

Stay out of the penalty box. If you need an explanation, you're reading the wrong section.

Pegula Power. Harness the energy from the crowd and the good karma from the owner, who has yet to see his team lose back-to-back games since he got the keys to the castle.

Marquee forwards need to start playing their part. Vanek the only top-six guy to score thus far.

Keys for the Flyers

Survive the start. The Sabres should be juiced in the first 10 minutes in front of the home crowd. Get through that stretch and calm the game down.

More big saves from Boucher. He saved them in Game Two.

Keep shooting on the power play. They're talking like 1 for 15 is reason to celebrate not having an 0-fer. It's still 1 for 15.
