Clarence opens with win
It was just nice to get out of the gym.
The season opener for Clarence boys' lacrosse was welcome not just for the 15-7 win over Canisius, but also for the opportunity to be outside.
"I thought we played well today," Clarence coach Mike Silverstein said. "We've been stuck in the gym and had to shake off a little rust in the first five minutes, but we played well after that. We took a 12-2 halftime lead and then kept them at arm's length the rest of the way.
"It's tough when you're in the gym because you're in a crammed space. When you move outside, you have to adjust to shooting and spacing and the defense has to cover more ground."
Dave Decirce and Tyler Skowronski paced the Clarence offense, each netting four goals with an assist.
Elsewhere, K.J. Zinermon scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left to give Sweet Home a 10-9 win over Amherst in the opener for both teams.
Zinermon scored three goals while Nick Tagliarino had three goals and four assists for the Panthers. Ryan Kauffman and Steve Raimondi each added two goals while Mike Prentice had 10 saves.
