Dr. Herbert S. Pirson, a retired radiologist, died Sunday in his Orchard Park home. He was 87.
Dr. Pirson was a member of the staff at Buffalo General Hospital for 36 years before retiring in 1988. He published numerous articles in medical journals and was president of the Buffalo Radiology Society in 1971-72. He also was an associate clinical professor of radiology at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.
Born in Buffalo, he attended UB Medical School, graduating in 1946. He took his internship at Deaconess Hospital, served in the Army 51st Medical Group in Okinawa, then completed his residency in radiology at Buffalo General.
Dr. Pirson was a fellow of the American College of Radiology and a member of the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiology Society of North America and the New York State Chapter of the American College of Radiology.
He also was a member of the Erie County Medical Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the American Medical Association, the Christian Medical Society and the Lutheran Medical Mission Association.
He was a past president of Buffalo's North Park Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing at Gowanda Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn Camin; two daughters, Carol Pirson and Virginia Wells; and two sons, Herbert A. and Christopher.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 4356 S. Buffalo St., Orchard Park.
