ECK, John Perrin
ECK - John Perrin Age 87, of Groton, CT died March 18, 2011. He was the son of the late John G. and Anna (Perrin) Eck. John leaves his wife of 56 years, Joanne (Bergholtz) Eck. He was a graduate of Burgard Vocational School in Buffalo, N.Y. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. John was a submariner who made a number of wartime patrols in the Pacific, serving on many boats during his 20 year career, retiring in 1962 as a chief petty officer. He then worked at the U.S. Naval Submarine
Base in Groton in the weapons department, retiring in 1979. John was a licensed pilot and had a longtime love for the New York Yankees. He was a lifetime member of the Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium. He also belonged to the Westerly Yacht Club, the Subvets, and the Holland Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Duttweller; a brother, Joseph T. Eck and his wife, Marie; sisters-in-law, Sue and Nancy Eck; and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and George; and his sister, Helen Simpson. At his request, the services and burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
