>New Hampshire advances

Kevin Goumas scored twice and New Hampshire goalie Matt Di Girolamo stopped eight shots in the third period as the Wildcats upset top-seeded Miami of Ohio, 3-1, Saturday in the NCAA hockey tournament's Northeast Regional in Manchester, N.H.

Mike Sislo also scored for the Wildcats (22-10-6), breaking a 1-all tie early in the third period and Di Girolamo carried UNH the rest of the way.

East Amherst's Phil DeSimone earned a secondary assist on Sislo's game-winner 39 seconds into the third period.

The Wildcats, who face Notre Dame tonight (8 p.m., ESPNU) are one win away from their first Frozen Four appearance since 2003 when they lost in the final to Minnesota at HSBC Arena.


>Canisius laxmen beat Marist

Sean Callahan (Orchard Park) made a career-high 14 saves and Canisius killed off eight Marist extra-man opportunities as the Golden Griffins earned their first men's lacrosse win of the season, 7-5, at the Demske Complex.

Simon Giourmetakis led the Griffs (1-6, 1-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) with three goals and an assist. Nick LoCoco, Greg Michael (Orchard Park), Jimmy Haney and Brendan O'Hagan also scored for Canisius.



* Japan's Victoire Pisa won the $10 million Dubai World Cup by a half length, capturing the world's richest horse race. In New Orleans, Pants On Fire came from just off the pace to win the $1 million Louisiana Derby.

* An ailing Andy Roddick was eliminated in his opening match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla., falling to Pablo Cuevas 6-4, 7-6 (4).
