Dr. Robert H. Evans, a retired orthodontist formerly of Williamsville, died Wednesday in Sarasota, Fla., after a long illness. He was 83.
Born in Niles, Ohio, he grew up in Buffalo and was a graduate of Bennett High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University at Buffalo and his doctorate of dental surgery from UB Dental School.
Dr. Evans then went on to intern at Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, now Erie County Medical Center, before serving two years in the Air Force.
Upon his discharge, he returned the UB Dental School to study Orthodontics, which he practiced for 25 years before moving to Sarasota.
Dr. Evans is a past president of the Williamsville Rotary Club, former director of the Williamsville Cemetery Association and a past member of the Amherst-Clarence advisory board of M&T Bank.
He was a member of the Country Club of Buffalo and a 50-year member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He maintained a summer home in Hanford Bay in Chautauqua County and was a past president of the Hanford Bay Property Owners Association and the Hanford Bay Community Club.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Dorothy Lapp; a son, Dr. Robert L.; and a daughter, Nancy E. Hargrave.
