Disaster inspires fundraisers

Buffalonians with ties to Japan have been working hard to raise funds to help the Japanese victims of the quake and tsunami:

*Nick Sam, a Buffalo teenager whose grandmother is Japanese and who lost a cousin in the devastation, has spearheaded an effort to help the victims through Canisius High School, where he is a student. He has expanded the effort to at least eight local schools and more are pending.

Buffalo attorney Paul Cambria is helping the cause by covering the cost of having wrist bands made up for Nick's fundraiser. Anyone wishing to donate can write checks made out to Canisius High School with Japan Tsunami Relief written in the memo line. Mail to Canisius High School, attention: Japan Tsunami Relief, 1180 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14209.

*City Honors School also has been conducting a fundraiser for Peace Winds. The school has raised more than $2,500 so far.
