OLAF FUB SEZ: A quit-smoking sentiment from conductor Arturo Toscanini, born on this date in 1867, "When I was young, I kissed my first woman and smoked my first cigarette on the same day. Believe me, never since have I wasted any more time on tobacco."


BELLA BENEFIT -- A fundraiser will be held Saturday to help Bella Pellettieri, a 2-year-old Elma girl born with Rett syndrome, a neurological and developmental disorder. It will run from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Annunciation School gym, 7580 Clinton St., Elma.

Bella requires round-the-clock care, and the benefit will help offset her family's financial burden. It will include auctions of an autographed Derek Jeter jersey and a Jay Leno-autographed TV. Tickets are $25. Donations also can be sent to the Bella Grace Pellettieri Foundation, P.O. Box 195, Alden, NY 14004.


BIG DEAL -- The Ladies Guild of St. John Gualbert Catholic Church will hold its annual card party and theme tray auction from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the school cafeteria, 120 Alexander Ave., Cheektowaga; $4 donation includes refreshments.


HERE'S THE BEEF -- The Shriners of Western New York sponsor a meat raffle at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Shrine Center, 1600 Southwestern Blvd., West Seneca; $2 admission includes beer, soda and sandwiches. Call 674-8666.


MOSTLY POULTRY -- First Baptist Church of Clarence, 10790 Hunts Corners Road, hosts a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Dinners are $9 adults, $4.50 kids 5 to 12, under 5 free, and include dessert.

The Depew Polish Falcons Club, 445 Columbia Ave., Depew, holds its 10th annual BW's chicken and rib barbecue from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Chicken dinners are $8.50 at the door, ribs are $10.50, including dessert; 50 cents off on advance tickets.

The Ladies Sodality of St. James Catholic Church serves a pork chop dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Parish Hall, 500 Terrace Blvd., Depew. Dinners are $9 adults, $5 kids under 12, and include dessert.

The Social Ministry Group of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hamburg hosts a Chiavetta's chicken barbecue with homemade desserts from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the school gym, 68 E. Main St.


SEA FARE -- The Hilbert College Alumni Association hosts a fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today in the Campus Center Dining Hall, 5200 South Park Ave., Hamburg. Dinners are $9, with a choice of baked or fried fish. Grilled cheese or chicken nugget children's dinners are $4.

Orchard Park United Methodist Church, 3700 N. Buffalo Road, offers fried haddock dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today; $9 for adults, $5 kids under 10.


BACK FOR SECONDS -- First Presbyterian Church, 2085 Union Road, near Clinton Street, West Seneca, holds an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with sausage on the first order from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5.50 adults, $3 kids 3 to 10, under 3 free.

Nest 6, Polish Falcons of America, serves an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the club rooms, 3171 Broadway, near Union Road, Cheektowaga. Dinners are $5.50 adults, $5 seniors, $3 kids under 12, and include meatballs and dessert.

Boy Scout Troop 104 hosts an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday in St. John the Baptist Parish Hall, 1085 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda. Dinners are $8 at the door, $4 kids under 12, under 5 free, and include a salad bar and dessert.
