The law firm of Harter Secrest & Emery named Denise M. Brown an associate attorney in the firm's Labor and Employment Litigation Practice Group in the Buffalo office. Brown received her J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law and her bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester.

The Buffalo law firm of Burden, Gulisano & Hickey named Thomas J. Lang an associate. Lang, a Fredonia State College graduate, received his J.D. from the UB School of Law and his MBA from the UB School of Management.

The Buffalo-based law firm of Hurwitz & Fine named Ashley R. Westbrook an associate on the firm's litigation team. Westbrook earned her J.D. at the UB School of Law and her bachelor's degree at Hamilton College.

Alcott HR Group appointed Rob Hamel and Jonathan Bellomo human resources representatives serving in the Western New York division. Hamel recently served as benefits coordinator for Kaleida Health. He is a University at Buffalo graduate with an MBA from Medaille College. Bellomo previously served as a human resources coordinator with NOCO Energy Corp. He is also a UB graduate.

Peter J. Walsh, a senior vice president and financial adviser at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, was invited into the Business Owner Executive Council. Walsh has worked at Morgan Stanley since 1987 and has been in the financial services industry since 1984.

Volland Electric Equipment Corp., a Buffalo rotating electrical apparatus repair and distribution company, named Ken Hugh product specialist for electrical control sales. Hugh will be responsible for all of the New York and Pennsylvania territories.

Cohen & Lombardo partner Terrie Benson Murray recently gave a presentation at a seminar sponsored by Lorman Educational Services entitled, "Medicaid and Elder Law: Representing Clients in a New Legal Landscape."

Adam's Mark Hotel promoted Gianluca Sciarra to executive chef. Sciarra is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and has more than 12 years of professional experience. Also, the hotel appointed Michael Davis executive sous-chef and Marie Battaglia director of catering. Davis has more than 22 years of professional experience including at a five-star casino resort. Battaglia has 16 years of experience that includes catering events and galas. Adam's Mark is a 486-guest room hotel with 72,000 square feet of event and convention space.

Travers Collins & Co. senior vice president Jeffrey A. Schoenborn presented opening remarks for the SNL Bank Investor Relations Symposium at the New York Stock Exchange recently.
