Richard Tomasello, a local painter and Kenmore Middle School art teacher whose work deals with the darker side of human nature, will have his first local solo exhibition starting today in Blink Gallery, 466 Amherst St.
Tomasello's recent body of work, a series of pastel paintings featuring green-skinned figures with rhinoceros horns, is an attempt to give form to "the violent and grotesque nature inherent in men," he wrote. The paintings, Tomasello explained, are in response to a brutal attack he suffered several years ago in a bar. The pieces have an illustrative, almost comic-book quality to them, something that no doubt owes to Tomasello's training in illustration at Buffalo State College.
The show runs through Thursday. For more information, call 983-2112 or visit www.richardtomaselloart.com.
