31st Federation Tournament

At Times Union Center, Albany

*Class B Friday's semifinals

CHSAA-St. Mary's Lancers (18-9) vs. AIS-L.I. Lutheran Crusaders (18-5), 11:45 a.m.

PHSAA-Irvington (27-1) vs. PSAL-Scholars Academy (27-1), 10 a.m.

*Saturday's final: 10:30 a.m.

St. Mary's starters: Raeann Stilwell-12 (5-3), Victoria Fontana-12 (5-1), Maria Rosati-12 (5-5), KC Sokolski-11 (5-11), Ciara Rosten-9 (6-3). Key reserves: Nicole Gangloff-12 (5-9), Rachael Salamone-12 (5-8), Rose Brown-11 (5-4).

*Coach: Keith Junik (fifth season).

*St. Mary's final four history: The Lancers won their second straight Catholic state title to earn another trip to the Federation -- last year both were first for the programs.

*State rankings: 1. Irvington; 2. L.I. Lutheran; 6. St. Mary's; 12. Scholars Academy.

*Bracketology: Last year's first trip to the Fed was certainly a memorable one for St. Mary's, as the Lancers beat Goldstein Science, the PSAL champion, 63-44, thanks in large part to a Federation Class B-record 38 points by Stilwell. If St. Mary's is able to win again, they'll likely meet the same team they lost to in last year's final. Irvington of Section I (Westchester County) won its second straight NYSPHSAA title last weekend by crushing Section V (Rochester area) champion Aquinas, 91-52, in the final.

On the Web: The News' Keith McShea will have live play-by-play from courtside on the Prep Talk blog.
